ARUBA NETWORKS NEW SECURE ENTERPRISE MESH GOES WHERE NO WIRES HAVE GONE BEFORE

Allows wire-free data, voice, and video networks with end-to-end security to be deployed economically in school trailers, historic sites, sports stadiums, warehouses, facilities with asbestos, and other challenging installation environments

Sunnyvale, CA, May 7, 2007 - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in secure mobility solutions, today announced its Secure Enterprise Mesh technology that enables a converged data, voice, and video network to be deployed or expanded without installing any new data wiring. An extension of Aruba's award-winning wireless LAN and security solutions, the Secure Enterprise Mesh technology sends information from location to location over an exclusively wireless network, and can be installed, moved, or changed quickly and easily as needed. Designed for business-critical applications in which highly reliable communications and client-to-core security are important, the mesh can reach locations that would be prohibitively expensive, if not impossible, to network using a wired solution. Typical applications include campus video surveillance, remote building interconnections, sporting arenas and stadiums, rapid-deployment security monitoring, and disaster recovery operations.

"Aruba's secure mobility architecture blurs the distinction between wired and wireless networks in terms of assured application delivery and security, while offering the mobility, productivity, and life-cycle cost benefits that come from a wire-free network," said Keerti Melkote, Aruba's founder and head of products and partnerships. "Any indoor or ruggedized outdoor Aruba access point can be loaded with the Secure Enterprise Mesh software, giving integrators a powerful new tool for difficult installation scenarios."

The Secure Enterprise Mesh solution has several key distinguishing characteristics related to security, performance, and easy of installation. Following best practices originally specified for military communication systems, data are encrypted end-to-end, from client to core, affording the greatest protection for network data, even if a mesh access point is stolen. Security policies are centrally managed from an Aruba Mobility Controller, which offers ultra high bandwidth, capacity, and availability. The field-proven, 802.11n-ready controllers provide tight policy control and enforcement, simplify overall network management, scale to support the largest of enterprises, and provide fault tolerance when used with redundant controllers.

Network installation is simplified both by the elimination of network wiring and the use of cooperative control and mesh cluster optimization. The wire-free design makes it possible to locate, and relocate, mesh access points as and where needed. The cooperative control and mesh clustering features allow the wireless network to self-organize, determine the optimal path for communication to any given client, and self-heal in the event that a wireless path is blocked or a mesh access point fails. Taken together these features lower the time and costs associated with an initial deployment, and reduce life-cycle costs associated with adds/moves/changes, down time, and network maintenance.

"Wireless meshes are remarkably valuable in many outdoor - and indoor – enterprise applications," said Craig Mathias, a principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group of Ashland, MA. "Aruba has taken a big step forward by seamlessly integrating mesh capability into its already robust product line, thereby leveraging common security and management capabilities. We can now think of mesh as a transparent addition to enterprise WLANs, enormously increasing the value and utility of these networks."

The Secure Enterprise Mesh solution is being demonstrated at the Food Marketing Institute Show, May 6-8, at McCormick Place in Chicago, and will also be on display at Interop Las Vegas, May 20-25, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Aruba plans for the product to commence shipping in July 2007.

About Aruba Networks, Inc.

People move. Networks must follow. Aruba securely delivers networks to users, wherever they work or roam. Our mobility solutions enable the Follow-Me Enterprise that moves in lock-step with users:

  • Adaptive 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networks optimize themselves to ensure that users are always within reach of mission-critical information;
  • Identity-based security assigns access policies to users, enforcing those policies whenever and wherever a network is accessed;
  • Remote networking solutions and fixed mobile convergence ensure uninterrupted access to applications as users move;
  • Multi-vendor network management provides a single point of control while managing both legacy and new wireless networks from Aruba and its competitors.

The cost, convenience, and security benefits of our secure mobility solutions are fundamentally changing how and where we work. Listed on the NASDAQ and Russell 2000® Index, Aruba is based in Sunnyvale, California, and has operations throughout the Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.
