UNIADEX SELECTS ARUBA FOR REAL-WORLD IMPLEMENTATION OF DUAL-MODE MOBILE PHONE HANDSETS
First Solution Provider to Enable Secure Corporate Voice Services for Newly Released Dual-Mode Phone
SUNNYVALE, CA, November 22, 2004 - Aruba Wireless Networks (Aruba) today announced that Uniadex, Ltd (Uniadex), a leading system integration provider in Japan, has begun offering an integrated solution for secure enterprise wireless voice based on Aruba's series of wireless LAN (WLAN) switches and a newly-released dual-mode 3G/Wi-Fi handset.

Uniadex now offers a packaged solution combining the Wi-Fi-enabled FOMA (Freedom of Mobile-Multimedia Access) N900iL handset, Aruba's family of WLAN switching products, and NexGen SIP server. FOMA is a 3G technology based on W-CDMA. Uniadex has begun field testing of the solution with select customers, and will offer general availability in April, 2005.
The N900iL handset was announced by NTT DoCoMo this month. The N900iL is a dual-mode FOMA and wireless LAN handset that works as a 3G cellular phone outside the corporate office, and as a voice over IP (VoIP) phone on the enterprise wireless LAN. The FOMA/Wi-Fi phone is targeted as the successor to the widely deployed enterprise PHS (Personal Handy-phone System) systems and will enable the ubiquitous mobility that forms the base of the next generation office.
The new dual-mode handsets support secure authentication and encryption. Aruba's wireless system adds unique voice flow classification technology to ensure that only certain traffic types, such as SIP, are allowed from these handsets while at the same time providing required QoS. This technology prevents someone from accessing the network using unauthorized devices or protocols.
Aruba's system locks down traffic to specific protocols and the dynamic ports that they open, all while maintaining mobility context. As a result, Aruba's WLAN system is able to provide new and unique security policies and granularity of controls that until now have never been possible and are essential in secure mobility architectures.
According to Uniadex, Aruba was selected based on superior scalability in large networks, fast roaming support with low-latency handoffs, and advanced quality of service capabilities. Other key selection criteria included seamless integration with existing enterprise networks, flexible scalability, and centralized security and management.
