Aruba Networks Delivers Secure Wireless Voice to Klein Independent School District

More than 2000 Wi-Fi Handsets Deliver Outstanding Voice-Over-IP Performance With Tight Network Security
Sunnyvale, CA, March 31, 2008 – Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, today announced that Klein Independent School District (ISD) in Texas has deployed Aruba’s wireless LAN technology and identity-based security across the district’s thirty-nine elementary, intermediate, and high schools. Klein ISD was incorporated in 1938 and today supports more than 42,000 students. The district needed a toll-quality voice network in conjunction with a reliable data network for faculty and staff, and the legacy wireless network was unable to meet their current needs. Working with Verizon Business, the system designer and integrator, and following an extensive review of competing solutions, Klein ISD selected Aruba as the wireless network supplier.
“We needed a top quality wireless network over which to run 2000 Wi-Fi handsets, our primary communication system for faculty and staff,” said Karen Fuller, Klein ISD’s Director of Technology. “Our legacy wireless LAN was not up to the task so we looked for a replacement that provided manageable and flexible wireless security, massively scalable controllers, and self-optimizing RF management that would automatically adapt to our continuously changing RF environment. Aruba works as we had hoped, and our wireless voice communications are crystal clear and trouble-free.”
Aruba’s unified mobility solutions securely deliver networks to users by integrating adaptive wireless LANs, identity-based security, Wi-Fi-to-cellular solutions, and multi-vendor network management into a cohesive, high-performance system. By automatically adapting the network to accommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks, Aruba simplifies wireless LAN set-up and operation. Unique follow-me security capabilities provide unprecedented mobility for users while ensuring that security is always enforced.
In addition to supporting Wi-Fi handsets, Verizon Business will implement a captive portal for Klein ISD’s visitors and hand-held devices. The captive portal requires users to register prior to accessing the network. Once admitted each guest’s access is individually adjusted by Aruba’s stateful firewall based on policies set by the IT manager.
“Aruba’s wireless LANs minimize IT overhead by using automated set-up and optimization features that do away with manual surveys and ongoing adjustments,” said Chris Harget, Aruba’s head of K-12 education marketing. “This feature is able to maintain toll-quality voice as users roam because our Adaptive Radio Management technology monitors for interference in real-time and automatically makes adjustments based on the applications that are in use. Also important for schools, Aruba’s interoperable architecture supports all standard clients including Centrino, Pentium, and Apple – an essential feature given the wide range of PCs typically in use.”
