When someone needs emergency assistance, knowing their physical location is essential. But when a person uses an IP phone from inside a large building or campus, GPS can’t be used reliably to locate that person.
Wi-Fi can be used to solve the location challenge. Whether the person calls from an IP phone or a mobile phone that’s Wi-FI-capable, the wireless LAN (WLAN) can pinpoint their location.
