ZTP Support for Instant AP Conversion

Instant 8.4.0.0 enhances ZTPZero Touch Provisioning. ZTP is a device provisioning mechanism that allows automatic and quick provisioning of devices with a minimal or at times no manual intervention. support for automatic conversion of Instant APs to Campus APs or Remote APs. During or after an Instant AP boots up, it periodically sends a provision update request to the Activate server. Activate responds with a provision rule and a controller IP address to deploy the Instant AP. Upon receiving a response, the Instant AP downloads the image from the controller based on the controller IP address. The Instant AP performs the upgrade, erases configurations, and reboots. Now, the Instant AP operates as a Campus AP and finds a controller to connect with. For example, to convert an Instant AP to Campus AP, the provision rule would comprise the CAP mode and the controller IP address.

ZTPZero Touch Provisioning. ZTP is a device provisioning mechanism that allows automatic and quick provisioning of devices with a minimal or at times no manual intervention. supports the following Instant AP to Campus AP scenarios:

Instant AP Does Not Save the Controller IP Address

An Instant AP converts to Campus AP by talking to controller 1, reboots, performs standard controller discovery, and discovers controller 2. Each time the Campus AP reboots, it re-performs discovery and does not stick to any controller. The Campus AP can be moved from network to network without a configuration change.

Instant AP Saves the Controller IP Address

An Instant AP converts to Campus AP by talking to controller 1, reboots, skips standard controller discovery, and stays with controller 1 permanently. The Campus AP cannot be moved from network to network without a configuration change.

You can view provision update logs by using the CLICommand-Line Interface. A console interface with a command line shell that allows users to execute text input as commands and convert these commands to appropriate functions..
