Unified Communications Manager

Unified Communications Manager (UCM) is a service module introduced in Aruba Instant 8.7.0.0 that manages the prioritization of voice and video call traffic in the AP. It enables the prioritization and monitoring of voice and video applications that use SIPSession Initiation Protocol. SIP is used for signaling and controlling multimedia communication session such as voice and video calls. .

Voice and video calling applications exchange SIPSession Initiation Protocol. SIP is used for signaling and controlling multimedia communication session such as voice and video calls.  control packets before establishing a voice or video session. The UCM process on the AP identifies these SIPSession Initiation Protocol. SIP is used for signaling and controlling multimedia communication session such as voice and video calls. control packets and prioritizes the corresponding session in the datapath. These sessions are tagged with default DSCPDifferentiated Services Code Point. DSCP is a 6-bit packet header value used for traffic classification and priority assignment.  value of 48 for voice sessions and 40 for video sessions.

If a custom port is used for SIPSession Initiation Protocol. SIP is used for signaling and controlling multimedia communication session such as voice and video calls. other than port 5060, the port must be added to the list of netservice ports for UCM to function. Ports can be added to the netservice list using the CLICommand-Line Interface.
