Wireless Intrusion Detection & Protection
2 minute read
The HPE Aruba Networking Wireless Intrusion Detection & Protection System (WIDS & WIPS) is a network security feature that monitors wireless networks for unauthorized access points, clients, and abnormal traffic patterns. WIDS & WIPS detects rogue and interfering access points, providing real-time alerts and detailed reports to safeguard the integrity of the wireless network. Attacks are not only detected but also classified, contained, and recorded in a seamless sequence that can automatically handle security events.
When security events are discovered, HPE Aruba Networking Central can alert the security team of possible threats and provides essential information needed to locate and manage those threats.
WIDS & WIPS operates at the radio frequency level, with various deployment modes to suit different environments — Access Point (AP) mode for client service, and Air Monitor (AM) mode with an emphasis on security. While standard AP mode suffices for most security needs, environments demanding higher security may opt for AM mode, especially for wireless containment.
HPE Aruba Networking Central provides an effective defense strategy against rogues and other forms of wireless intrusion:
-
Performs multiple types of wireless scans.
-
Correlate the results of the various scans to consolidate all available information about identified devices.
-
Classifies the discovered devices based on rules that are customized to an organization’s security needs.
-
Generates automated alerts and reports for IT containing key known information about unauthorized devices, including the physical location and switch port whenever possible.
-
Deploys containment mechanisms to neutralize potential threats.
