Configuring System Access and DNS Parameters for AOS-S Switches

System access and DNS Domain Name System. A DNS server functions as a phone book for the intranet and Internet users. It converts human-readable computer host names into IP addresses and IP addresses into host names. It stores several records for a domain name such as an address 'A' record, name server (NS), and mail exchanger (MX) records. The Address 'A' record is the most important record that is stored in a DNS server, because it provides the required IP address for a network peripheral or element. parameters allow you to configure administrator and operator credentials, and domain name system (DNS) servers.

To configure administrator credentials for AOS-S switches, complete the following steps:

In the Aruba Central app, select one of the following options:
- To select a switch group in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to a group containing at least one switch.
    The dashboard context for the group is displayed.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
  3. Click the Config icon to view the switch configuration dashboard.
- To select a switch in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to Global or a group containing at least one switch.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
    A list of switches is displayed in the List view.
  3. Click a switch under Device Name.
    The dashboard context for the switch is displayed.
  4. Under Manage, click Device.
    The tabs to configure the switch is displayed.
- Click System > General > Administration.
  The Administration accordion is displayed.
Enter the username for the administrator user in the Admin Username text box.
Enter the password for admin in the Admin Password text box and confirm the administrator password. A maximum of 64 characters are allowed.
To configure the operator user credentials, complete the following steps:
- Move the Set Operator Username toggle switch to the on position.
- Enter a username and password for the operator user.
- Confirm the password.
Move the Telnet toggle switch to the on position.
Select Local, TACACS, or RADIUS from the Management Authentication drop-down menu.
Click Save Settings.

Configuring a DNS Server

To configure a DNS server, complete the following steps:

Configuring the Admin Username and Admin Password is optional when configuring a DNS server.

In the Aruba Central app, select one of the following options:
- To select a switch group in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to a group containing at least one switch.
    The dashboard context for the group is displayed.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
  3. Click the Config icon to view the switch configuration dashboard.
- To select a switch in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to Global or a group containing at least one switch.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
    A list of switches is displayed in the List view.
  3. Click a switch under Device Name.
    The dashboard context for the switch is displayed.
  4. Under Manage, click Device.
    The tabs to configure the switch is displayed.
Click System > General > DNS.
The DNS accordion is displayed.
From the Name Server drop-down, select DHCP or Static. The default option is DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A network protocol that enables a server to automatically assign an IP address to an IP-enabled device from a defined range of numbers configured for a given network. .
- You must add at least one DNS server IP address, when you select Static from the Name Server drop-down.
- You can add only a valid IPv4 address.
- You can add a maximum of two DNS server IP addressses.
- The first static IP address that you add is considered as priority. The second IP address that you add is considered secondary.
1. Enter the static IPv4 address of the DNS server in the text box.
2. Click the + add icon.
3. To delete a static IP address, click the delete icon.
  If two IP addresses are configured, you can first delete the second priority IP address.
Click Save Settings.

Adding Message of the Day

When the user connects to switch, the MOTD banner appears before the login prompt.

To add a Message of the Day (MOTD) in the Login Banner, complete the following steps:

In the Aruba Central app, select one of the following options:
- To select a switch group in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to a group containing at least one switch.
    The dashboard context for the group is displayed.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
  3. Click the Config icon to view the switch configuration dashboard.
- To select a switch in the filter:
  1. Set the filter to Global or a group containing at least one switch.
  2. Under Manage, click Devices > Switches.
    A list of switches is displayed in the List view.
  3. Click a switch under Device Name.
    The dashboard context for the switch is displayed.
  4. Under Manage, click Device.
    The tabs to configure the switch is displayed.
Click System > General > Login Banner.
The MOTD text box is displayed.
Enter the text in the textbox.
A maximum of 4132 characters can be entered in the MOTD textbox.
Click Save Settings.
