Setting Up Virtual Appliances Using the Hyper-V Manager

You can set up virtual appliances using Hyper-V manager either manually or automatically using a windows batch file.

 

Manually set up a virtual appliance using Hyper-V Manager

  1. Download the zip file from HPE Aruba Networking Central and unzip it to a folder on your server to extract the files. For instructions on downloading the files, see Downloading Virtual Appliances.
  2. Launch Hyper-V Manager from the start menu.

  3. On the Hyper-V Manager, click Action> Import Virtual Machine.

  4. Under Locate Folder, select the directory where you want to unzip the file. Click Next.
  5. Under Choose Import Type, select Copy the virtual machine. Click Next.
  6. Under Choose Destination, select the Store the virtual machine in a different location checkbox. Do not change the first entry. Copy the first entry to the second and third fields. Click Next.
  7. Keep others as default. Click Next and Finish.

  8. Right-click the newly imported VM Virtual Machine. A VM is an emulation of a computer system. VMs are based on computer architectures and provide functionality of a physical computer. and click Rename. Enter a new name for the VM to avoid any conflicts.

  9. Right-click the renamed VM and click Settings.

  10. Navigate to Hard Drive and click Edit.

  11. On the Choose Action page, select Convert. Click Next.

  12. Under Choose Disk Format, select the default option. Click Next.

  13. Under Choose Disk Type, select Fixed Size. Click Next.

  14. Under Configure Disk, enter a new file name. Click Next.

  15. Click Finish.

  16. On the Media page, click Editto edit the virtual hard disk with the new one.

  17. Navigate to Processor on the left panel and set the parameters as listed below:

    • Virtual machine reserve to 100

    • Virtual machine limit to 100

    • Relative weight to 10000 (10k). Click OK.

  18. Navigate to Network Adapter on the left panel and select a Virtual Switch with External type. Click Apply and OK.

  19. Double-click on your VM to launch it.

  20. Once you set up the virtual appliance, you must power on the new virtual appliance and configure CLI options as shown here.

Automatically set up a virtual appliance using Hyper-V Manager

  1. Download the zip file from HPE Aruba Networking Central and unzip it to a folder on your server to extract the files. For instructions on downloading the files, see Downloading Virtual Appliances.

  2. Find the import.bat file. Right-click the bat file and select Properties.

  3. Check the Unblock checkbox. Click Apply and OK.

  4. Run the import.bat file. A new window pops up.

  5. Click File > Settings.

  6. Navigate to Network Adapter on the left panel and select a Virtual Switch with external type. Click Apply and OK.

  7. Once you set up the virtual appliance, you must power on the new virtual appliance and configure CLI options as shown here.

  8. Register the data collector as shown here.

  9. Create the data collector as shown here.
