Enabling Gateway Logs

Logs is a selectively available feature. Contact the Aruba Account Manager for enabling it for your Aruba Central account.

Logs aims to help users diagnose and debug issues detected in an Aruba Central-managed network. The Tools > Logs tab on the gateway dashboard provides the option to enable On-Demand data collection. The On-Demand data collection allows you to download the TAR logs and crash logs related to gateways.

To enable logs collection for a gateway on the Aruba Central-managed network, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Aruba Central app, set the filter to one of the options under Groups, Labels, or Sites.
    Ensure that the selected option contains at least one gateway. For all devices, set the filter to Global.

    The dashboard context for the selected filter is displayed.

    • To select a device in the filter:
      1. Set the filter to Global.
      2. Under Manage, click Devices > Gateways.

        A list of gateways is displayed in the List view.

      3. Click a gateway listed under Device Name for which you want to perform diagnostic test.

        The dashboard context for the gateway is displayed.

  2. Under Manage, click Devices, and then click the Gateways tab.

  3. Click a gateway listed under Device Name.

    The dashboard context for the gateway is displayed.

  4. Under Analyze > Tools, click the Logs tab.
  5. In the Logs tab, turn on the Enable On-Demand data collection toggle to download TAR logs and crash logs.
  6. Click Save.
  7. To upload TAR log or crash log, click in the Log Files table.
    The Upload Log File dialog box is displayed.
  8. Configure the following parameters as per your requirements:

    Select one of the log file types listed here:

    TAR log

    Crash log

    Packet capture log

    Tar log

    When TAR log is selected as the File Type, the following options are displayed, you can select one option:

    • Upload existing file—Allows you to upload an existing TAR log file.

    • Generate & upload new file now—Allows you to generate and upload a new TAR log file now.

    • Generate & upload new file at a scheduled time—Allows you to generate and upload a new TAR log file at a later date and time.

    Crash Log

    The following options are displayed when Crash log is selected as the File Type. You can select one of the options listed here:

    Upload existing file—Allows you to upload an existing Crash log file.

    Prepare & upload new file now—Allows you to prepare and upload a new Crash log file now.

    Prepare now & upload new file at a scheduled time—Allows you to prepare a crash log file now and upload it at a later date and time.

    Packet Capture Log

    The following option is displayed when the File Type is configured as Packet capture log.

    Prepare & upload new file now—Allows you to prepare and upload a new packet capture log file now.

    Scheduled Time

    If you chose to upload a TAR or Crash log file at a later date and time, configure the following parameters listed here:

    Select Zone—Allows you to configure the time zone.

    Select Date—Allows you to select a date within the range of a week.

    Hours—Allows you to configure hour ranging from 0 to 23.

    Minutes—Allows you to configure minutes ranging from 0 to 59.

  9. Click Save.
  10. The Log Files table displays the following parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    File Name

    Displays the name of the generated log file.

    Type

    Displays the type of the generated log file:

    • TAR file
    • Crash file
    • Packet capture log

    Status

    Displays the status of the generated log file.

    • Scheduled—When an existing log file is scheduled for upload.
    • In progress—When a new log file is generated and it is scheduled for upload now or for a later date. Displays the progress percentage.
    • Complete—When the log file upload is completed.
    • Failed—When the log file upload is unsuccessful.

    Collection Time

    Displays the time when the log file was created.

    Size

    Displays the size of the log file.

    User

    Displays the User ID of the user who generated the log file.

  11. To download a log, select the respective log listed in the Log Files table and click the download icon.
  12. To delete a log, select the respective log listed in the Log Files table and click the delete icon.
