EdgeConnect Virtual (EC-V) Host System Requirements
The following table outlines the requirements for deploying an EdgeConnect virtual (EC-V) appliance within a hypervisor-hosted environment.
Supported EC-V Configuration Guidelines
NOTE: Guidelines and performance results are based on VMware ESXi hypervisor version 8.0, using a server based on Intel® XEON® Gold 6242R processors (3.1 Ghz) and with hyperthreading enabled. Other supported hypervisors include Microsoft® Hyper-V®, Linux® KVM, and Citrix XenServer, and results may vary. 10 G Network Interface Cards (NICs) were used in testing the 4, 8, and 12 core configurations. 25 G NICs were used in the testing of 16 core configurations. EC-V performance on other processor types, classes or families will have varying results.
ECVs running pre 9.3.4/9.4.3 versions of ECOS cannot be upgraded until the disk is repartitioned.
Use of the IDS/IPS feature does not impact system resource requirements.
*Bidirectional, full duplex (symmetrical ingress and egress) WAN bandwidth. Compiled from performance tests spanning UDP & TCP testing in both SD-WAN fabric and Breakout (passthrough) scenarios. IMIX based on average packet size of 361 B.
**Throughput capacity measured as any traffic (Tx, Rx) being processed by IDS/IPS engine. Measurement is based on mix of Internet traffic types averaging 1000 B.
EdgeConnect Virtual (EC-V) Host System Requirements Based on Bandwidth
The following tables are designed to assist in identifying the EC-V hypervisor requirements based on bandwidth needs.
Step 1: Determine how much bandwidth you need. If the requirements are only for bandwidth and no BOOST, follow the system requirements in Table 1.
Step 2: Determine if you require BOOST. If yes, follow the system requirements in Table 2.
Table 1: EC-V without BOOST

Processor Cores (>3 GHz) | Memory (DDR4 or better) | Pre ECOS 9.3.4 / 9.4.3 Storage Requirement | ECOS 9.3.4+ / 9.4.3+ Storage Requirement |
---|---|---|---|---|
Up to 500 Mbps | 4 Cores | 8 GB | 30 GB | 60 GB |
Up to 1 Gbps | 4 Cores | 16 GB | 30 GB | 60 GB |
